Classical Guitar
The classical guitar is similar to the acoustic guitar, with a few notable exceptions. The neck on these instruments is somewhat wider than they are on a typical acoustic. And unlike an acoustic, they utilize nylon strings rather than steel.
Classical guitar music has its roots in the Baroque era. Musicians and composers such as Jean-Baptiste de Lully (17th century) and Nicolo Paganini (18th/19th century) wrote a variety of works that are still part of the common repertoire. Genres such as Flamenco are directly related to this style of music.
A classical guitar is played in a different manner than your standard guitar. The right hand plucks the strings with the tips of the fingers rather than by using a pick. Professional players often grow their fingernails long in order to facilitate this action.
