Guitar Amps

Guitar amps are essential for anyone that plays the electric guitar. Without them, it makes it virtually impossible to “rock”. There are a host of amp manufacturers and even more individual models available to today’s guitar player.

While there are dozens of guitar amps on the market today, most can be categorized as either a combo amp, or a head and speaker stack. With a combo amp, the actual amplification module is contained within the same enclosure as the speakers. A head and speaker stack set-up means that the amp (head) is a separate unit that has to be plugged into the speaker cabinet.

Guitar amps generally use one of two types of amplification circuitry; tube or solid state. Solid state amps tend to be less expensive and are very popular, especially with beginning players. However, most professionals agree that nothing beats the sound of a tube amp.
